HOW TO BE A HAPPY HUMAN
An absolute free commodity but owned by very few. I have realised that Happiness is not a simple goal, and it is not something that just happens. It's a conscious effort that we have to make. It means continually finding contentment, satisfaction and a feeling of joy. Even though Happiness is an absolute free commodity, it's still owned by very few because they either don't know where or how to get it. In this article, I will explain a few attributes you need to emulate if you want to be happy.
1. OPTIMISM
Intentions are powerful. How we see/think about things contributes 50 per cent to the outcome. Positive thinking is an essential component of self-esteem and overall life satisfaction. Optimism also tends to make your personal and work relationships better.
Cultivate the habit of optimism if you want to be happy.
2. GET YOUR MIND OCCUPIED
Occupy your mind with positive thoughts. As humans, we tend to remember negative things more than positive happenings. But if you want to be happy, you need to learn how to tame your negative thoughts. Like I said earlier, Happiness doesn't just happen to people. We have to work for it; we have to make a conscious effort in other for us to stay happy. It's okay to be worried about things not going well in your life, but you shouldn't let that thought alone occupy your mind.
3. FIND YOUR HAPPY PLACE
This does not have to be your house or your workplace. In fact, it doesn't necessarily have to be a physical place. It could be a place in your heart or something that you love to do or participate in. Look for it and keep it as close to you as possible.
4. GRATEFULNESS
Practice active gratitude. This is somehow linked to occupying your mind with positive thoughts. When you think more about the things going well for you rather than what is not, you find yourself showing gratitude, thereby staying happy most of the time.
5. Lastly, practice hedonic well being. It is believed that increased pleasure and decreased pain leads to unending Happiness.
All in all, it boils down to you not putting the key to your Happiness in some else's hands.
